• Visit craft villages around Bhuj for bandhani tie dye, Ajrakh block print and embroidery
• Walk Ahmedabad's old city heritage route and the Adalaj stepwell
• Add Gir National Park if you want the only place with wild Asiatic lions

Food to try

Gujarati thali is sweet, sour and endless: dhokla, thepla, undhiyu in winter, khandvi and shrikhand. This is a largely vegetarian state, and Ahmedabad's Manek Chowk turns into a street food market at night.

Culture & customs

Craft traditions here are living industries, not souvenirs, and Kutch has some of the finest textile work in the world. Gujarat is a dry state, so alcohol is prohibited, and Navratri in autumn fills every town with garba dancing.
