Destination guide
Know before you go
Popular for Clean, safe city travel with children and world class attractions
What you can do
- Give Sentosa a full day for Universal Studios, the aquarium and the beaches
- Walk Gardens by the Bay in the evening for the free light show at the Supertrees
- Ride the cable car or the Singapore Flyer for a first view of the city
- Eat your way through Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam in one afternoon each
Food to try
Hawker centres are the real attraction: Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, chilli crab, roti prata and kaya toast, all cheap and safe. Halal stalls are clearly marked and Kampong Glam is the easiest area for Muslim travellers.
Culture & customs
Four cultures share one small island, so mosques, temples and churches sit on the same street. Rules are taken seriously: no eating on the MRT, no litter and heavy fines for durian on public transport.
Best time to visit
February to April
It is hot and humid all year with rain in short bursts. December and January are the wettest, while June to August brings school holiday crowds and higher hotel rates.
