Destination guide
Know before you go
Popular for Mysuru palaces, coffee estates and cool green hills
What you can do
- See Mysore Palace, and time it for a Sunday evening when the whole facade is lit
- Climb Chamundi Hill early, then visit the Devaraja market for flowers and sandalwood
- Stay on a Coorg coffee estate and walk the plantation with the grower
- Add Abbey Falls, Dubare elephant camp and a viewpoint at Raja's Seat for sunset
Food to try
This is dosa and filter coffee country. In Mysuru try Mysore masala dosa and Mysore pak; in Coorg try pandi curry, kadambuttu rice dumplings and akki roti, with honey and pepper from the estates to take home.
Culture & customs
Mysuru still feels like a royal town, and the Dasara festival in autumn is its biggest event. Coorg has its own Kodava identity with distinct dress, martial traditions and ancestor worship.
Best time to visit
October to March
The post monsoon months are green and mild, and Dasara falls in September or October. June to September brings heavy rain to Coorg, which is beautiful but limits walking.
Itinerary
- 01
Bengaluru and Mysuru
Arrive through Bengaluru and plan a comfortable transfer to Mysuru. Reserve time for the palace and an easy evening in the city.
- 02
Coorg
Continue to Coorg for a slower stay among the hills. Ask about guided estate walks and choose activities that fit the season and your accommodation.
- 03
Return
Allow a dedicated return transfer. A final city night may be more comfortable than a long drive immediately before an early flight.
