Destination guide
Know before you go
Popular for Charminar, Golconda Fort and the biryani
What you can do
- Walk the Charminar and Laad Bazaar together, best in the late afternoon
- Climb Golconda Fort for the acoustics demonstration and the sunset
- See the Chowmahalla Palace and the Salar Jung museum for the Nizam era collections
- Add Ramoji Film City for a full family day, or Hussain Sagar for a quiet evening
Food to try
Hyderabadi biryani is the reason most people come, cooked dum style with the lid sealed. Also try haleem in Ramadan, Irani chai with Osmania biscuits, double ka meetha and the kebabs around the old city.
Culture & customs
The city blends Mughal, Persian and Telugu influence, which shows in the language, the food and the pearl trade. Dress modestly around Charminar and the mosques, and expect the old city to be busiest in the evening.
Best time to visit
October to March
Winter is dry and pleasant for walking the old city. April to June crosses 40C, and Ramadan evenings, while crowded, are the best time to eat here.
